Caroline Shaw as Festival Composer 2021

Publisert: 04/06/2021

The Trondheim Chamber Music Festival proudly presents Caroline Shaw as Festival Composer 2021. She joins the list of festival composers at a high international level, such as Steve Reich, Sofia Gubaidulina and Mark Simpson, and fits well into the Kamfest profile; young, innovative and cross-genre.

Caroline Shaw is a New York-based musician – vocalist, violinist, composer, and producer – who performs in solo and collaborative projects. She was the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013 for Partita for 8 Voices, written for the Grammy-winning Roomful of Teeth, of which she is a member. Recent commissions include new works for Renée Fleming with Inon Barnatan, Dawn Upshaw with Sō Percussion and Gil Kalish, Anne Sofie von Otter with Philharmonia Baroque and the LA Philharmonic, to name a few. She has produced for Kanye West (The Life of Pablo; Ye) and Nas (NASIR), and has contributed to records by The National, and by Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry.

Nine different works by Shaw will be performed at the festival in September. Highlights include Partita for 8 Voices and Entr’acte at the Opening Concert in the Nidaros Cathedral and the song cycle Is a Rose with Caroline Shaw herself as a soloist together with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.

Full programme will be released on 17 June.
