Festival Composer and Clarinet
Mark Simpson has been described as a talent who, having to decide between two highly successful careers, chose both! He was the first winner of both the BBC Young Musician of the Year and the BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composer of the Year in 2006, aged just 18. This opened doors for him as both composer and performer and led to a series of engagements with several of the best orchestras and festivals in Europe and Great Britain. From 2015 - 2019 he was the BBC Philharmonic`s Composer in Residence. Our prizewinning Festival Composer will also be featured as a performer during the festival, and will play, among other things, his own work for solo clarinet, Darkness moves.
